Hey there! I’m Luisa Hurtado, though you might know me better as @imluluisa from Instagram. I’m a fashion designer with a love for upcycling, a deep passion for sustainability, and an obsession for turning pre-loved materials into new favorites. My journey began in a small town in the beautiful Baja California region of Mexico, where fashion always sparked my curiosity. As a kid, I dreamed of wearing unique clothes that stood out, so I started crafting my own pieces. It all began with me asking my grandma and mom for custom designs far too often—until they lovingly nudged me to learn sewing myself! I went on to study Fashion Design and Garment Industry in Mexico, graduating with honors. My first post-grad gig was as an assistant teacher at my alma mater, where I taught sewing and pattern-making. I launched a few collections and showcased them at local fashion shows, which opened up new markets and sparked more opportunities. Soon after, I met the love of my life and moved to the U.S., starting from scratch in a new country. It was challenging, but it was also an adventure—I even made my own wedding dress! I sold my designs at local events and crafted pieces for friends and family, sharing my passion wherever I could. This love for fashion and creativity eventually led me to start a YouTube channel, followed by TikTok, where one of my upcycled designs—a backpack made from jeans—caught major attention. From there, things took off, and I had the chance to collaborate with brands like Levi's, become an ambassador for Brother Sewing, and teach for Domestika.org. Now, I focus on helping others around the world start their own creative projects. Through my social media channels, I’m here to inspire, teach, and encourage sustainable fashion, personal style, and a good dose of fun. Let’s create something meaningful together!
